Festival Environment: Striking differences between India and Israel

If the day is Friday and the clock shows 5,all the shops in Israel (excluding few owned by Arabs) are closed till Sunday Morning. In fact you don't see many people on roads. If it is a Jewish festival, then the situation is even worse. I happened to see two festivals, 'The Jewish New Year' and 'Yom Kippur', the fasting festival and I am stunned to see the striking contrast between Indian and Jewish way of celebrations.

You would find more people on an Indian road and more shops open in India even when 144 section is in vogue than the day of Yom Kippur(is festival of torture where people torture themselves by fasting : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Kippur). It is like a self declared curfew.

Peeping more into the people's culture by talking to more people here I found that it is not that these guys are socially together but most of the festivals here are related to family and they try and be with their family on those days. Different cultures have different ways of seeing things.
